Ashana squinted as she stared into a white emptiness. Luminara’s soothing voice still echoed in her mind. A few moments later, Jet materialized beside her, and finally Quirt appeared.

“What is happening to us?” Quirt asked tentatively.

Release your fears, Dr. Zefrityn.

The white void thinned, and the trio stood in a stone courtyard overlooking a dense forest with a gray sky expanding overhead. They stepped forward and looked over the ramparts at the world beyond the boundaries of the ancient citadel.

“Well, this is interesting,” Jet murmured to himself.

“Interesting?” Quirt asked wryly. “How did we get here? More importantly, where are we?”

“Welcome to the Nuhremorn,” Rezaaran called out from behind them.

They turned and saw the War Mage flanked by Luminara and an ethereal woman with flowing white hair. “This is Kashari Alda-Fyre,” he said. “She is a former Elder Mage of the Vokarii Order and the spirit bound within my sword.”

“So…you mean to say that we are now inside your sword?” Jet asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Not exactly. The sword acts as a conduit to transfer my consciousness to this realm. You can think of it as an alternate dimension.”

This intrigued Quirt, who sought to take in every detail of the world around him. However, it sparked a revelation for Ashana.

“This is where you do your training?”

“It is indeed, Ash—and now it is the place where the Sentinels begin their journey together.”

“You still need to explain that, you know.”

Rezaaran nodded, and at his mere thought, their setting changed to the Atmari Altar.

“How did we get here so fast?” Quirt asked in alarm.

“The Nuhremorn is shaped by the thoughts of beings with a strong connection to the Vaux. Within this realm, we are able to alter the world around us. This monument behind me is the Atmari Altar, the resting place for the souls of the Sentinels. Each of us holds a powerful soul crafted by the Guardians to be the last defenders of Anmor. This war against the Dominion is for more than merely freedom—it’s a war for the existence of life.”

The three friends looked at him skeptically. Knowing how this would sound to a non–Vaux user, Rezaaran could understand their disbelief and knew they would need proof. He directed each of them to the statues around the altar. Each of the Sentinels touched their respective marble figures and instantly saw their lifetimes’ experiences ripple through the water beneath their shrines.

“This all just seems so impossible,” Jet murmured as he watched the memories of himself and Hera in the water.

“Who is that for?” Quirt asked, indicating the solitary statue.

“That’s Diothur’s shrine.”

“The bounty hunter that tried to kill us on Halsyn?” Ashana whispered.

“Individually the Sentinels are capable of more than any mortal,” Luminara explained. “However, defeating Thaedis Silvermire will require your combined strength. I believe he has learned of your existence, though perhaps not yet your identities—but he knows there are those who can oppose him. He tracked down Diothur and corrupted her essence in order to have someone trained to hunt down the remaining Sentinels and remove the obstructions to his goal.
